My Two Cents: The A-Team Movie
Posted: 22/06/10 :: MovieRepliCars.net
Forget all you know about the A-Team this is a totally new team. From the opening sequences director Joe Carnahan introduced us to a different A-Team a much grittier set of characters. The story begins with Col.Hannibal Smith (Liam Neeson) & Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck (Bradley Cooper) meeting B.A Baracus (Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson) and finds Murdock (Sharlto Copley) in a VA physio hospital for the first time.
The Basic Plot
Eight years after they meet in Mexico and 80 successful missions the A-Team embarks on their final mission before the US army pulls out of Iraq. CIA Agent Lynch (Patrick Wilson) brings to the attention of Col.Hannibal Smith stolen U.S. treasury plates used to manufacture counterfeit currency by Iraqi insurgents. After successfully retrieving the plates and returning back to base, their celebrations are short lived. Their precious cargo is stolen again still time by private security firm Black Forest, led by the ruthless Brock Pike (Brian Bloom).
The A-Team realises they were set up and sentenced to ten years in separate maximum security military prisons. Col.Smith vows to find the plates and clear their names. Six months later Lynch visits Hannibal in prison to discuss the teams escape and retrieving the currency plates. The rest is all action packs thrills and big explosions until the end.
From the onset, the movie gave a serious tone, unlike its cartoon like action from the TV series, with a low body count and large explosions. It would have been disappointing for A-Team fans the icon GMC van didn’t last the movie. It was destroyed in the opening minutes of the movie.
Even the characters were grittier than from its comedic like TV series counter parts. The late George Peppard would have been very happy with Liam Nesson riving his old character as Col.Hannibal Smith. Nesson was made to play this part with his cool domineer and screen presence. Bradley Cooper was the perfect chose as Lt.Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck. Cooper portrays a much cooler, charming and takes charge character, minus the suite than his TV series counterpart. Surprisingly, Quentin "Rampage" Jackson who plays B.A Bracus makes the part his own with his blend of toughness. Sharlto Copley as Howlin' Mad" Murdoc isn’t as funny as the original Murdoc character. Little to nothing was adapted from the TV series. As mentioned before the iconic van didn’t last the movie. New character military officer Charisa Sosa (Jessica Biel) would pursue the A-Team. Lynch is a CIA agent in the movie while in the series; he was a MP Colonel Lynch (William Lucking). If there were any cameos made by the rumored Dirk Benedict one completely missed it.
Bottom Line
The A-team is a great action packed flick, and it’s worth the viewing on the big screen. With its subtle humour and huge explosions will satisfy any diehard A-Team. However, one feels the A-Team movie would suite a DVD night in.
