Sony Pictures have announced a release date for the new 'Karate Kid' movie to be released on June 7, 2024. The franchise has continued with success with the Cobra Kai series streaming on Netflix. Other than a release date there is no other information available, including the cast and a storyline.

The success of the Cobra Kai series may have contributed to another movie. However, Cobra Kai creator Jon Hurwitz has confirmed his team and cast are not involved in this movie.
The Karate Kid Franchise
The Karate Kid franchise started back in 1984 and went on to produce three movies with Hilary Swank as the 'Next Karate Kid' in the third movie. Then in 2010, a remake of 'The Karate Kid' with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan was released.

Cobra Kai Series
Currently, the franchise is kept alive with the success of the 'Cobra Kai TV series on Netflix. Season 5 was released at the time this article was written.
First launched on YouTube in 2018 Season 1 and then Season 2 in 2019. However, after production was completed on Season 3 YouTube decided it will no longer produce the series. Then Netflix acquired the series in June 2020 and began releasing all the seasons on their platform.
The Cobra Kai series is set 34 years after Daniel LaRusso defeated Johnny Lawrence in the All-Valley Karate tournament. Now in their 50s, Johnny revives Cobra Kai and Daniel not happy with this tries to destroy Cobra Kai. The series introduces a new generation of (karate) kids while maintaining its nostalgia by bringing back characters from the original series.
