2026 Oz Comic Con Melbourne Cosplay Highlights

There are few events on Melbourne's calendar quite like Oz Comic Con. Every year, it transforms the city into a colourful playground where superheroes, anime icons, gaming legends, movie villains, fantasy warriors, and beloved pop culture characters all come together under one roof. On Sunday, 7 June 2026, I had the chance to wander the convention floor with my camera in hand, and once again, I was reminded why cosplay photography is one of my favourite things to capture.

The atmosphere was electric as I stepped into the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). Everywhere you looked, there were smiles, laughter, and passionate fans proudly showing off costumes they had spent months—sometimes even years—creating. Every cosplay tells a story, and that's what makes events like Oz Comic Con so special.

One of the greatest joys of cosplay photography is never knowing who you'll meet around the next corner. Throughout the day, I came across an amazing variety of characters from comic books, blockbuster films, anime series, television shows, video games, and classic pop culture favourites.

Some costumes were packed with intricate armour, weathered props, and handcrafted accessories that looked like they had stepped straight off a movie set. Others embraced fun, humour, and creativity, proving that cosplay is just as much about expressing yourself as it is about accuracy.

Every person I photographed brought something unique to their character, whether it was an iconic pose, a perfectly timed expression, or simply the enthusiasm they shared with fellow fans.

What often goes unnoticed is the incredible amount of dedication behind each cosplay. Countless hours of sewing, painting, 3D printing, foam crafting, makeup, and prop building all come together to create something truly memorable.

Walking around, it was impossible not to admire the craftsmanship on display. From elaborate fantasy armour to detailed anime outfits and screen-accurate movie costumes, the level of creativity was inspiring.

As a photographer, moments like these are a privilege to capture. Every click of the shutter helps preserve not just the costume, but the excitement and pride of the person wearing it.

Photography allows these moments to live on long after the convention doors close. My goal is always to capture not only the incredible costumes but also the personality, confidence, and fun that each cosplayer brings to the event.
